Isn’t Mediumroast all about coffee?

Of course and no!  Although we do love a good Cup of Joe it is the process from bean to brew that fascinates us.  Starting from a humble bean the transformation begins with drying and roasting, moves to the grind, next the brew and finally the cup. We see these incremental refinements, producing a magical beverage, as nothing short of inspirational.  So, you’ll then find us borrowing terms from the coffee making process, choosing design colors from coffee in various forms, and well it gives us a way to put a little flavor in our company culture.

Lightning Struck

Founded in 2020 the Mediumroast was born with a singular intention: Render aid to Products, Business Development, Customer Success and other similar teams who  struggle to both surface the why’s behind their planning and converting the why’s into actionable steps.

Our story begins in the 2000s when modern Product Discovery practices were in the relative Stone Ages.  We had one particular problem to overcome — a real language barrier between Product and Engineering — and the usual mutual skepticism between these two camps.  When combined the timeless question “Did a customer really ask for this?” was next level hard to answer.  So, we got busy by taking our Engineers on the road to visit our users and partners.  Along the way we discussed and debated the findings and contemplated the competition.  What resulted was a magical shared understanding of why we needed to build and what we should build.  Ultimately, this thrilled our users, significantly grew the business and made us highly competitive.

BANG! Lightning struck as we realized our past company’s competitive distinction is exceedingly rare today.  Therefore, we started wondering why and how could we make this competitive advantage more common.  At that point it dawned on us that we could encode our experiences into software and complement with services to enable teams to plan better, to plan with why well understood.

We’re just starting our history.

We are well on our way towards realizing our ambitions of building a company and helping teams brew up their best possible plan.  Our aim this year is to continue proving our technology through limited consulting engagements and move through two alpha releases.  Our tools, specifically the Caffeine Machine Intelligence Service, are helping us build with clear alignment to what our target users want.

Finally, we deeply believe our software and services must make it easy for our users to generate outputs that are well sourced with clear source attribution. That’s because we see guiding users to easily generate source attribution and giving full credit to the author(s) battles disinformation.
